Rose Hurd is a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and wife in the Tulsa area. Rose works as a breastfeeding Peer Counselor for the Oklahoma WIC Program. She also is the owner of her business, With Love Births in which she is a Traditional Birth Worker. Rose has served families in her community for over 40 years. As a cosmetologist, she styled the hair for many young ladies in low income families for school or work. In the salon she taught about Aids Awareness. She later formed a support group to empower young mothers called Teen Moms Inc. while she was a resident in Tulsa Housing. She assisted many moms from the group and from the salon at the births of their children.. Rose then chose to further her education and earned her B.S. in Human Development and Family Sciences/ Early Childhood Education from Oklahoma State University. It was during her studies when she joined the Metropolitan Urban League Guild and served as Board Secretary for the auxiliary group which raised funds for scholarships for high school seniors to attend college. After becoming and educator, Rose finally found her calling working with birthing families. The then became certified as an advanced Holistic Doula, Childbirth Educator, Breastfeeding Specialist and postpartum care practitioner. Rose is now a board member of the Coalition of Oklahoma Breastfeeding Advocates, which helps change policies and laws for Oklahoma to become more breastfeeding friendly. She sits on the board of Women Helping Other Women which promotes Empowerment, Education and Entrepreneurship. She is also a member of Block Builderz serving the most vulnerable populations, justice involved people, people experiencing homelessness and the elderly. it is Rose's goal to form a collective of like-minded people that can help serve birthing families and help improve the health of her community.
